J330 - Saturday, September 11: Amiens – Beauvais

80.79km – 9H45’
Altitude : 63m
All the runners who come to share the road with Serge are of one voice: Serge is fast and for some the pace is difficult to hold, especially because it is hot in the afternoon.
I could almost pass for someone who says just about anything :  « Serge runs at an average of 7 km per hour, if he doesn’t talk it’s because he is tired, right now he is exhausted…..”.  All we have to do is cross the channel for the situation to change radically.  Serge is all smiles, he doesn’t stop talking and he goes quickly because his average includes the refueling pauses he took today, when he stopped to eat.  So what happened on September 6 to change Serge?  I find no explanation but no doubt about it, meeting and running with people has had an effect on his morale.  Now he is reassured that the events planned in the city stages will not prevent him from attaining his daily average kilometers.  He feared that and communicated the pressure.  Not long ago he was dragging during the first kilometers and now that is no longer the case.  He is carried along by the cheerful atmosphere and today there was a lot of it, with some ten runners all day long.
Daniel is leaving us this morning, after being with us for almost 8 weeks.  This morning he looks rested and it’s a pleasure to see because he was looking so fatigued of late.  No doubt about it, conditions on the road were particularly difficult and the pressure Serge and I exerted at the beginning of September was not easy for Daniel and RenĂ© to handle.  So thank you, Daniel, and see you at the Finish.  From now to then our young retiree will have a lot to do:  organizing “Cycloped” and a visit to the United States.  There is no danger that Daniel will be bored.
Surprise, surprise, The Carrier Pigeons are already back.  In one week this is their third round trip but today they are not alone: Alain and Arlette, their neighbors are with them.  Alain had already made us some delicious “shortbread”.  And Françoise and GĂ©rard from our home town left this morning to surprise us, with streamers and a bag full of goodies from Normandy.  Françoise, president of the Leisure Activities Club of Grainville-Ymauville, brought us a bottle of Champagne from the club.  At home they have not forgotten us and it feels good!
Catherine, Jean-Francois and Christian, our friends from the south, left us a 12:30 p.m. for Paris and then Montpellier.  We wish them fair wind and a good rest for Jean-François after 6 days of running, which ends his training.  He clocked almost 300 km.  Our thoughts will be with him in two weeks on the 100 km de Millau.
It is difficult to mention all the people who run with Serge and I hope those I have not mentioned will forgive me.  3 winks for: the visit by Frank and his family, who came expressly from Abbeville.  Juliette, his daughter, has run quite a few kilometers with Serge.  GaĂ«tan has followed us for some time.  He lives Crèvecoeur le Grand and just by chance we will pass there.  GaĂ«tan is a specialized teacher and he followed the Paris-Tokyo with his class of 12 students.  He did the same thing with this European Race and at noon his daughter, Clemence, and Melinda, one of his students, ran for 2 km with Serge.  We met “Chti’Grincheux” and it is worth the detour because there were at least 2 jokes per minute non-stop!
Thanks to all: William, Guillaume, CĂ©cile and all the others for their presence and high spirits.  Thanks to the Beauvais section of the CJD for having organized this finish with the participation of the municipality, which has a Sports director as smiling as she is dynamic.  On Sunday Beauvais is celebrating sports.  Thanks go to Alain, who took some of today’s photos.  Thanks also to Michel Meunier, president of the CJD national and his active presence in running.  Thanks and again thanks for this marvelous day, which was blessed with sunshine.
